HSC Years 11 to 12
A Band 6 tutor works through algebra, measurement and statistics with your child, in person, one to one or in a small group.

TutorMunk provides in-person tutoring for Year 11 Mathematics Standard students across suburban Sydney, in your home or at our Gregory Hills centre.
Year 11 Mathematics Standard is one shared course, covering algebra, measurement, financial mathematics and statistics, before it splits into Standard 1 and Standard 2 for Year 12. A tutor works through whichever topic is current at school, building the foundations both Year 12 pathways rely on.
How your child performs in Year 11 often shapes which Year 12 pathway the school recommends, so sessions focus on genuine understanding of each topic rather than just getting through the homework.
A Year 11 Standard session runs for 60 minutes, one to one or in a small group, in your home or at our Gregory Hills centre. The tutor teaching this course achieved a Band 6 in a senior maths course, and a typical session works through worked examples, then a set of practice questions marked against the same style of criteria used at school.
A written note goes home after every session, and small group sessions at the centre are capped at six students in the same course, so a tutor still checks each student's own working.
This suits a student who found maths harder in Years 9 and 10 and wants to build confidence before the Year 12 pathway decision, as well as a student who understands each topic in isolation but struggles to apply it in a mixed question. It also suits a student and family wanting an honest, early view on whether Standard 1 or Standard 2 will suit them better in Year 12.
It also suits a student who is comfortable with the content but wants steady, regular practice through the year rather than a rush of catch-up sessions closer to the pathway decision.
A note comes home after every Year 11 session outlining the topic covered, and progress gets a plain conversation each term. A tutor explains how Year 11 results tend to feed into the Standard 1 or Standard 2 decision, without pressure, so the choice stays grounded in how your child is actually going.

Year 11 Mathematics Standard is one shared course for every student on the Standard pathway, covering algebra, measurement, financial mathematics and statistics. In Year 12 it splits into Standard 1 and Standard 2, so Year 11 is really building the base both pathways rely on rather than a separate, smaller course.
This is usually decided with the school toward the end of Year 11, based on how a student has gone across the course so far. A tutor can help you see where your child's results currently sit, though the final call on which pathway is offered rests with the school.
Starting early can help, since Year 11 content builds directly on Year 9 and 10 topics, and gaps from earlier years tend to resurface here rather than disappear. A tutor can identify which specific gaps are causing trouble and work on those alongside the current Year 11 topic.
