HSC Years 11 to 12
A tutor who achieved a Band 6 in English Advanced reviews your child's Major Work draft each session, in person, one to one or in a small group.

TutorMunk provides in-person tutoring for HSC English Extension 2 students in Year 12 across suburban Sydney, in your home or at our Gregory Hills centre.
Extension 2 is a Year 12 only course built entirely around one Major Work, a piece of original writing, media or performance your child proposes, drafts and submits across the year. There is no separate exam, the Major Work and its supporting material carry the whole assessment.
Because the course is a single long project rather than a series of set tasks, the biggest risk is losing momentum partway through. A tutor checks in on the actual draft at each session rather than treating the process as something to sort out alone between check-ins with the school.
A Major Work session runs for 60 minutes, one to one or in a small group, in your home or at our Gregory Hills centre. The tutor teaching this course achieved a Band 6 in English Advanced, and a typical session reviews the current draft of the Major Work, marks it against the NESA criteria, and works through structure, voice and the reflection statement together.
A written note goes home after every session, and small group sessions at the centre are capped at six students working on their own separate Major Works, so feedback stays specific to each project.
This suits a student who already has a Major Work idea but is struggling to move from proposal to a full draft, as well as a student whose work is progressing but who wants a second, structured set of eyes on it before submission deadlines. It also suits a student managing the Major Work alongside Advanced and Extension 1, since the project can easily slip when school assessments in other subjects take priority.
It also suits a student who works well with a regular check-in, since a fixed weekly session gives the project a deadline of its own well before the school's own milestones fall due.
You get a note after each session tracking where the Major Work is up to, plus a plain conversation about progress each term. A tutor explains how the project and the reflection statement affect the final mark, without pressure tactics, so your child stays clear on what is actually being assessed.

FAQ
Still not sure? We answer questions about fees, tutor matching and session times on the phone.
It suits a student who already enjoys sustained, independent creative or critical work and is comfortable managing a long project with limited formal class time. It adds real workload on top of Advanced and Extension 1, so it is worth an honest conversation with the school and a tutor about your child's current capacity before committing.
This is common partway through the year, and changing direction is possible earlier rather than later. A tutor can look at the current draft and help your child decide whether to adjust the existing idea or change direction, based on what is actually working on the page rather than the original plan alone.
The reflection statement is a short piece explaining the ideas and process behind the Major Work, submitted alongside it. It is marked against its own NESA criteria and contributes to the overall result, so sessions treat it as its own piece of writing rather than an afterthought once the Major Work is finished.
