HSC Years 11 to 12
A Band 6 tutor works through worked calculations and written answers, in person, one to one or in a small group.

TutorMunk provides in-person tutoring for HSC Chemistry students in Years 11 and 12 across suburban Sydney, in your home or at our Gregory Hills centre.
Year 12 Chemistry covers four modules, Equilibrium and Acid Reactions, Acid/Base Reactions, Organic Chemistry and Applying Chemical Ideas, plus a depth study set by the school. A tutor works through whichever module is current at school, alongside the calculations that come with each one.
Chemistry mixes calculation-based questions with extended written responses, and a student can be confident with one and shaky on the other. Sessions cover both, working through the maths behind a calculation as carefully as the wording of a written answer.
A Chemistry session lasts 60 minutes and runs one to one or in a small group, in your home or at our Gregory Hills centre. The tutor teaching this course achieved a Band 6 in Chemistry, and a typical session works through worked calculations and a past paper section, then marks written responses against the NESA criteria.
A written note goes home after every session, and small group sessions at the centre are capped at six students in the same course, so a tutor still checks each student's own working and answers.
This suits a student who is confident with the theory but makes careless errors in calculations under time pressure, as well as a student who can do the calculations but writes weak extended responses, since Chemistry marks both skills separately. It also suits a student needing help structuring the depth study, or a student working toward the trial and HSC exams who wants regular timed past paper practice.
It also suits a student moving from Year 11 into Year 12 who wants a genuine head start on the harder calculation types before the pace of the course picks up.
Every session ends with a note on whichever of calculations or written responses was the focus, and progress is discussed plainly each term. A tutor explains how each assessment affects your child's rank, without pressure tactics, so the plan stays focused on the specific gap rather than everything at once.

FAQ
Still not sure? We answer questions about fees, tutor matching and session times on the phone.
This usually comes down to method and checking under time pressure rather than understanding the chemistry itself. Sessions work through the same calculation types your child's exams use, focusing on setting out working clearly so errors are easier to catch before submitting an answer.
The depth study is set and marked by the school against its own criteria linked to the NESA outcomes, separate from the four core modules. A tutor can help plan the investigation and structure the write-up, though the exact requirements and due date come from the school.
Year 12 Chemistry has four core modules, Equilibrium and Acid Reactions, Acid/Base Reactions, Organic Chemistry and Applying Chemical Ideas, plus a school-set depth study. A tutor can spend more time on whichever module is currently being taught or wherever recent test results were weakest.
